The materials I use are numerous and
diverse, they include: steel, stone, concrete, fibre glass, GRC, water,
paper, plastics, polystyrene, papier maché, wood, plaster of paris,
wax, mud and straw, sand, brick, clay and even wire.
Its important when placing a sculpture
in a garden or public site to take full account of the environment in
which the sculpture is being situated. So often public and also private
art works are simply plonked in place almost as an afterthought. This
results in a discombobulated conjunction of objects which often bear
no relationship to one another. Someone witty once coined the phrase
that this approach to public art is akin to 'putting lipstick on the
gorilla". Art being used as a cheap trick to beautify the dreary.
In all my projects, both large and small, I endeavour to be as fully
involved in the overall design process, and take account of the context
whether it be in a garden, building, room or cityscape. As a result I
am very experienced in dealing with builders, liasing with architects,
town planners and designers.
